This great story was relayed to us by a good customer:
“This is a comical story about a Rollator (a rolling walker with hand brakes and a seat). My Dad fell and broke his hip at age ninety-three. After
healing, therapy, and etc., he could walk with a regular walker, but because he had no more cartilage in his knees due to so many years of osteo-arthritis, and he was too stubborn to get a knee replacement, walking was pretty slow and painful. He decided he could move along a lot faster and smoother if he had a Rollator.
Before The Relief Shop was available, we went to a more expensive hospital supply store and they had one Rollator in the store which was actually their sample. When he saw it, he tried it out, and made the statement “This thing really goes!” I tried to explain that it was the store sample and wasn’t for sale, but the store could order him one. His comment was, “I won’t leave this store unless this Rollator goes with me,” and he sat down on it and wouldn’t budge! How do you convince a ninety-three year old, very opinionated man that he couldn’t have what he wanted?
After a while a solution was found — he could take the rollator home and use it until the new one came in.
My Dad was very happy and we left with the Rollator in tow. When we got back to the Senior Center where he lived, he moved faster, held his head higher and was “king of the hill” with his new Rollator.”

This is a great story. Your father’s stubbornness reminds me of my grandfather which brings a bright smile to my face. He is 90, and also set in his ways.. It’s great that they let him take home the Rollator. That’s good customer service in my opinion. I will be sure to check out the Relief Place Stress Info. Perhaps it has some helpful remedies for anxiety. Thank you!
Mobility equals independence for the elderly and this type of reaction is understandable. Immobility increases isolation so something as simple as a mobility frame can have a massive effect on quality of life.
Great blog, thanks! I really love it.
